Abstract
<PICT:0493446/III/1> Steam or other vapour is condensed by impinging an unbroken column of liquid 17 from a pipe 16 at an angle against a flat, elongated baffle 18 extending wholly or partly across a casing 8 through which the vapour flows, so as to form an unbroken liquid sheet 22 extending to the casing wall. The baffle may be rectangular and has an angular deflecting lip 20 on its edges. The casing contains several baffles, and the liquid impinges on either or both sides of each baffle. The liquid and vapour pass in the same or opposite directions. The baffle has an aperture 61 near each end, through which liquid flows on to the wall. The liquid sheet may be directed downwardly and flows down the wall, being deflected therefrom by a ring 26 above the gas inlet 14 to flow in a stream 27 to a water outlet 10. A baffle 28 breaks the stream 27. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 449,652, [Group XII].
