Abstract
300,590. Ledin, S. H., and Naucler, J. O. Nov. 15, 1927, [Convention date]. Bulk evaporators; film evaporators.-Liquids, e.g. waste sulphite liquor, are evaporated by direct contact with hot flue gases. The liquids are passed through a container 1 entering through a pipe 2 and leaving through a pipe 3 so that a depth of liquid of 1-2 cms. is maintained. Flue gases are pumped in through an inlet 4 having a perforated strainer plate 5 and leave by a conduit 6 communicating with a suction ventilator 7, foam being removed bv a separator 8 having an inclined bottom 9 and drainage pipe 10. In a modification, Fig. 4, the liquid is passed directly into the inlet 4 and blown by the flue gases in foam over the extended edge 12 of the inlet through a spray separator comprising a number of guide blades 15. In a further modification Fig. 6 rotary motion is given to the form by hot gases blown in through tangential nozzles 16. In a distilling viscous liquids the latter are allowed to flow down a sloping strainer plate. A strainer plate suitable for supporting the liquid in the various types of apparatus comprises a number of concentric rings 17 Fig. 11, forming annular slots 19 which may be kept clean by a rotating tool. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 12286/01, 9516/04, and 169,605.
