437,811. Washing gases. BOWERS, D. W., 5820, North Park Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A. May 1, 1934, No. 13127. Convention date, March 13. [Class 55 (ii)] Apparatus for treating gases with liquids comprises a rotating impell r with radial blades 11 on to the surface of which at the base thereof water is delivered so that it flows as a sheet along to the ends of the blades which it leaves in large drops which are thrown on to a surrounding wall 20, the gas passing between the blade ends and the wall from an inlet 22 to an outlet 24. Liquid passes by a pipe 23 through an axial chamber 16 on the hub of the impeller to ports 19 at the bases of the blades 11. The wall 20 has a rubber surface 21. Liquid in Fig. 3 passes through pipes 50, 46 to an axial chamber 29 and through ports 31 at the front of the bases of the blades 26. A fan 44 on the opposite side of a disc 42 on the impeller draws gas from an inlet 40 and forces it between the ends of the blades and a surrounding wall 33, the gas then passing round a baffle 35 on the wall to an outlet 34. The liquid falls through tubes 38, 39 to a sump 45, whence it may be recirculated. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 433,977.
