Abstract
349,233. Centrifugal density separators. OWEN, W. H., 19, Home Park Road, Wimbledon, London. April 10, 1930, No. 11435. [Class 23.] Relates to a dust separating apparatus in which soluble constituents of the gases are removed by jets of liquid. A suction fan 1 is fixed to a shaft 3 upon which impellers 9, 5, are also secured. Dustladen gases enter the apparatus through one or more inlets 4 and are whirled by a paddle-shaped impeller 5 in a perforated conical casing 7. The dust is projected outwards through the perforation and removed by way of a port 12, and the gases proceed axially through jets 8 of water or other liquid which remove the soluble constituents from the gases and exhaust through a port 11. Fixed vanes 6 provide an initial whirling movement to the gases. The inner wall of the casing in the wet zone is lined with porcelain or other suitable material according to the nature of the gases intended to be dissolved in the liquid. The latter may be lime water or alkali.
