Abstract
492,208. Drilling-machines. ARCHDALE & CO., Ltd., J., and JEWSBURY, J. June 9, 1937, No. 15966. [Class 83 (iii)] In a radial arm drilling-machine means for simultaneously locking the arm a to the column g and the saddle l to the arm comprises a hand operated rotatable shaft b carried on the arm and adapted to operate locking means e for securing the arm, a rotatable shaft o on the saddle adapted to actuate locking means m for securing the saddle, a lever t on the saddle shaft loaded by a spring or weight for moving the shaft into locking position and means associated with the shaft on the arm for moving the saddle locking means out of action. The shaft b is rotated by a hand lever mounted on a sleeve k slidably keyed to the shaft and operates through a screwed portion of the arm to press a friction pad e on to the column g or sleeve i. The shaft o carries an eccentric, or like portion n adapted to press a friction pad m on to the arm a and is moved to locking position by a spring or, as shown, by a weighted cable 2 passing round a pulley x on the lever t. The other end of the shaft o carries a lever y adapted to be engaged by a cam z on the sleeve k to move the shaft so as to release the saddle when the arm is released.
