Abstract

436,440. Lathes. PITTLER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK AKT.-GES., Wahren, Leipsic, Germany. July 16, 1935, No. 20298. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1934. [Class 83 (iii)] An automatic bar stock lathe wherein the bar is fed past the tools by axial movement of the spindle 19 is provided with bar-clamping means actuated by a sleeve 18 slidable on the spindle and operated through a bell-crank lever 16, spring bolt 15, sliding member 11, cam disc 9, gearing 5, 6 and one revolution clutch 2 from a constantly driven wheel 1. The gearing 5, 6 has a 1 : 2 ratio so that the cam disc rotates half a revolution at each actuation of the clutch 2. The member 11 is thus moved alternately up and down. When the spindle 19 and sleeve 18 are in the full-line position in Fig. 1 at the end of the operative spindle movement, the clutch 2 is automatically engaged by a projection 22 arranged on the control shaft 21. This projection operates a lever 24 to withdraw a pin 25 and locking bolt 28 to allow a spring 4 to engage the clutch which then rotates one revolution before it is retracted by the pin 25. This moves the member 11 downwardly to open the clamping means 18. At the end of the return spindle motion, the clutch 2 is again actuated to move the member 11 upwardly (dotted position in Fig. 1) to close the clamping device for a further working operation.
