Abstract

491,975. Typewriters. EVANS, O. (Olympia Buromaschinenwerke Akt.-Ges.) March 19, 1937, No. 8063. Addition to 466,791. [Class 100 (iv)] Relay type-lever actions.-The mechanism described in the parent Specification for raising the typelevers into proximity to the platen is replaced by mechanism comprising a rocking toothed-segment 3 gearing with a toothed-segment 1a on the type-lever 1 and connected, as by a link 13 to a member, such as an arm 10 pivoted at 11, provided with two rollers 12 or rocking blocks which engage opposite parts of a driving-eccentric 4. The mechanism imparts a gradually accelerated and retarded movement to the typelever, returns the lever positively and without the aid of springs, and reduces chattering. The eccentric may be provided with a spring- urged pawl 5 which is normally prevented from engaging teeth on the driving-shaft 18 by means of a pawl 9 co-operating with a pawl 8 which is in the path of a pawl 7 on the keylever 6. The member 10 may carry a spring- urged pivoted arm 15 carrying a roller 16 which engages the eccentric in advance of the top roller 12 and tends to hold the pawl 5 and bottom roller 12 in engagement with the pawl 9 and eccentric respectively, chattering of these parts being thereby prevented. Moreover, the roller 16 initiates rotation of the eccentric when the key-lever is depressed. Specification 491,971 is referred to.
