Abstract

466,791. Typewriters. EVANS, O. (Olympia Buromaschinenwerke Akt.-Ges.) Dec. 4, 1935, No. 33603. [Class 100 (iv)] Relay-type-lever actions.-The selected typelever is raised into proximity to the platen by means of a driving-shaft, and impression is effected silently by co-operation of the typelever with a rotating pressure-device which is arranged in front of the printing point and is driven in synchronism with the driving-shaft. In the action shown in the Figure, the type-lever 6 is provided at each side with a stud or roller 7 for co-operation with an impression-cam 2<a> on a shaft 3 geared to the driving-shaft 8. The type-lever is connected by means of a bell-crank 9 to a bell-crank 10 co-operating with an eccentric 18 which is frictionally coupled to the driving-shaft by means of a spring- urged block 34. The eccentric is provided with a spring-urged pawl 19 for co-operation with teeth on the driving- shaft. The pawl is normally held in disengaged position by co-operation of a lug 19<a> thereon with a lug 21<a> on a spring-urged bell-crank 21. A latch 24 for the bell-crank co-operates with a dog 26 which is pivoted on the key-lever 25 and co-operates with an adjustable abutment 28. During one revolution of the driving-shaft the cam 2<a> makes as many revolutions as there are teeth on the driving- shaft. On depression of the keylever, the latch 24 is depressed, the bellcrank 21 rocks forwardly, the pawl moves into the path of the driving-shaft teeth, and the eccentric commences to rotate. An abutment 30<a> prevents premature engagement of the pawl with the teeth, and the friction-coupling 34 prevents shock. During the latter part of its revolution, the eccentric restores the bell-, crank 21, the lug 21<a> gradually releases the pawl from the driving-shaft tooth, and at the end of a revolution the eccentric is arrested by co-operation of the lugs 19<a>, 21<a>, the friction-coupling 34 preventing shock. During the first part of the revolution of the eccentric, the type-lever is raised into proximity to the platen, springs 12, 13 causing the type-lever to move at a uniform speed. The studs 7 then co-operate with the cams 2<a>, and the type-lever is advanced to effect impression. After impression, return of the type-lever is initiated by a tappet 2b on the cams, and is completed under control of the eccentric.
