Abstract
491,574. Photo-electric cells. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 27, 1936, No. 32540. Void. Convention date, Nov. 27, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] In the manufacture of a photo-electric cell, the envelope is sealed off from the pump after evacuation and then heated with the photoelectrically sensitive material, contained for example in a capillary extension of the envelope, to such a temperature that the vapour pressure in the cell is sufficient to produce a layer of photo-electrically sensitive material over the surface of the cathode. It is stated that, by this method, distillation can be effected at a relatively low temperature. Higher vapour pressure may be used so that at first a certain metal surplus is in the cell which can be removed by heating with the cell connected to the pump.
