Abstract
412,665. Light - - sensitive cells. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, RUFF, H. R., Waverley, Overslade Lane, and SCOTT, W. J., 22, Windsor Street, both in Rugby. Feb. 2, 1933, No. 3235. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii).] In a selenium, thallium-sulphide, photo-electric or photo-voltaic cell the leading-in wires are fused into an intermediate glass support so as to be partly embedded in its surface, and are made of platinum or of an iron-nickel alloy coated with copper and copper borate, which is capable of joining satisfactorily with glass. Thus two stout wires 4, made of one of the above metals, are bridged by a glass bead 5 so as to be partly embedded in its surface, which is then covered with light-sensitive material either before or after insertion into the glass vessel 3 ; in the latter case the layer is formed by distillation in vacuo. The leads 4 are fused into the pinch 12. In modifications, the leads 4 may be inter-digitated combs partly embedded in the surface of a glass plate (Fig. 3, not shown), or a pair of wires forming a spiral on the surface of a glass cylinder (Fig. 4, not shown).
