Abstract

491,486. Relief valves. COCKBURNS, Ltd., and GRANT, T. April 4, 1938, No. 10196. [Class 135] A relief valve particularly adapted for use between a pair of parallel slide emergency bulkhead valves to prevent accumulation of condensate comprises a lift valve member 5 actuated by fluid pressure acting on the valve member and on a metal or rubber diaphragm 16 against the action of an adjustable loading spring 14. A hand wheel 10 is provided to enable the valve to be moved mechanically to either the open or closed positions. This wheel is secured to a tubular member 9a encircling the valve spindle 7 and having a screwthreaded engagement with the plug 11 screwed into the casing to adjust the loading spring. The member 9a is normally secured in the inoperative position by a removable pin 19 and after release may be screwed upwardly into contact with a collar 8 on the valve spindle to open the valve or downwardly into contact with a shoulder on the spindle to secure the valve in the closed position.
