Abstract

Rubber is purified by dehydrating a solution thereof, e.g. by distilling off water as an azeotropic mixture, agitating the hot solution with a dry adsorbent powder to collect haze-forming impurities thereon, and separating the liquid from the adsorbent and impurities. The rubber may then be recovered, or may first be chlorinated. The process may be applied to the further purification of deproteinized rubber. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to the precipitation of rubber from solution by the addition of an alcohol such as methanol, any resin associated with the rubber being retained in solution. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
