Abstract

Copper sulphate contaminated with organic matter, for instance that resulting from the low temperature dehydration of an organic liquid such as alcohol by means of anhydrous copper sulphate, is separated by physical means from adhering organic material, preferably ground, and then dehydrated by heat treatment between 185 and 300 DEG C., with movement or agitation of the salt and removal of liberated water vapour. Removal of organic matter may be effected by filtration under pressure, vacuum treatment, or centrifuging, followed by gentle heating to below 80 DEG C., and the dehydration step may be effected by allowing the salt to fall into an ascending stream of treating gas, or by heating under reduced pressure with removal of water vapour by means of a pump.
