Abstract

Dormant seeds, bulbs, corms, and tubers, including nuts and cocoa beans, whether capable of development into plants or intended for use as food are treated to destroy moulds and other fungi by exposure to the vapour of methyl alcohol alone or mixed with air, oxygen or other gas. The products may be placed on trays, which may be carried on trolleys, in a gas tight chamber, and methyl alcohol may be allowed to evaporate from dishes within the chamber, or may be supplied as vapour or as a fine spray which quickly evaporates, or a continuous circulation of air saturated with the vapour may be provided. The chamber may be evacuated prior to introduction of the vapour and may be provided with p steam pipes or electrical heating coils, and with baffles or a fan or with a series of inlets and outlets, to assist uniform circulation of the vapours. After the treatment the vapour may be removed by evacuation of the chamber or by circulation of air, or both, or by removal of the treated products from the chamber and exposure to the air. Specifications 15037/06, [Class 81], and 490,654 are referred to.ALSO:Dormant seeds, bulbs, corms, and tubers, including nuts and cocoa beans, whether capable of development into plants or intended for use as food, are treated to destroy moulds and other fungi by exposure to the vapour of methyl alcohol alone or mixed with air, oxygen or other gas.
