Abstract

Combustible gas from which hydrogen sulphide has already been substantially completely eliminated is passed with a small percentage of oxygen over a nickel or cobalt catalyst at 200-350 DEG C. Organic sulphur compounds are thereby oxidized. The catalyst is made by reduction of the hydroxide with coal gas, and is converted during the process into the subsulphide.
