Abstract
130,654. Rideal, E. K., and Taylor, H.S. March 2, 1918. Sulphuretted hydrogen. - Sulphur compounds contained in coal-gas, water gas, producer gas, &c. are converted into sulphuretted hydrogen by passing the gas, mixed with a quantity of water vapour insufficient to produce reduction of the catalyst, over heated iron oxide, mixed with one or more of the oxides of chromium, nickel, cobalt, cerium, thorium, zirconium, manganese, or molybdenum, which serve as promoters for the reaction. The catalyst is maintained at a temperature of 300-650‹ C. The sulphuretted hydrogen may be removed from the gas by known methods, such as absorption by iron oxide.
