Abstract

489,212. Automatic pistols. PETTER, C. G. Sept. 29, 1937, No. 26404. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1936. [Classes 92 (ii) and 119] Relates to means for regulating the speed of discharge of the type in which the return of the breech block 8 to firing position is controlled by an oscillating spring-controlled mass 47. According to the invention, a three-armed lever pivoted at 54 to the fixed gun casing has one arm x engaged by the breech block at the end of its backward movement to impart by a rod 56 an impulse to the mass, a second arm y which acts as an auxiliary sear to retain the breech block, and a third arm z which engages a cam surface 60 on the mass to move the arm y into and out of retaining position. The invention is shown applied to a short recoil automatic pistol in which the barrel 6 is rocked on a short link 18 to disengage the locking lugs 17 from the breech block which then recoils alone against the action of a long return spring 14 and is held in rear position by the usual sear 29 controlled by a trigger 25. The gun casing 1 is formed of sheet metal and is open at the bottom to accommodate a casing 3 carrying the firing mechanism and box magazine 20, the casing 3 being detachably connected to the casing 1 by removable bolts 19, 34. The bolt 34 also serves to retain the pistol grip member 37 which is recessed to house the rate-of-fire regulator, the recess being closed by a removable cover plate 64, Fig. 8. The pistol butt engages slots 44 in the member 37 and is retained by a fingerreleased catch 46.
