Abstract
488,407. Change speed gearing. RUMPLER, Z. F. Dec. 9, 1937, No. 34071. [Class 80 (ii)] A two-speed epicyclic gear, adapted to be used with an existing cycle free-wheel hub without modification of either the hub or of the cycle-frame, comprises a combined free-wheel driving-head 19 and planet-carrier, which'replaces the existing free-wheel driving- head, constitutes the driven element of the gear, and provides a .ball-bearing 7<1> for the driving annulus 1, which is formed as a casing carrying sprocket-teeth 2. The fixed spindle 5, which replaces the existing spindle, loosely carries the sun-wheel 4, which is moved axially into engagement with clutch-teeth 20 on the carrier, for solid drive, and with fixed teeth 21, for reduced drive. The assembly is not substantially wider than the existing freewheel hub.
