Abstract

488,321. Facilitating flow of gases in pipes &c. SOC. ANON. D'ETUDES DES BREVETS ET PROCEDES COANDA-SOC. COANDA. April 26, 1937, No. 11874. Convention date, May 25, 1936. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] The flow of fluid in pipes or conduits is facilitated by tapered, flared, or conical hollow elements 6 disposed along the axis of the pipe &c. so as to form central pockets opening towards the outlet end of the pipe &c., and annular passages between the elements and the wall of the pipe &c. Fig. 1 shows the application to a silencer 2 connected to an exhaust pipe 1, the elements being carried by a central rod 7 secured within the silencer. In a modification, annular skirted elements are also mounted on the inner wall of the pipe &c. so as to form annular pockets therewith. Fig. 3 shows the elements 6 formed on the guide for the exhaust valve stem. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the annular skirted elements on the inner wall of the pipe may be used without the central elements, and they may also be of helical formation, or used in pipe bends. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
