Abstract

Induction pipes, fittings for.-A charge mixing device for inserting in the induction pipe comprises a sleeve containing two or more adjacent sets of vanes, each set forming axial passages and disposed so that the vanes of each set cross, bisect, or divide the passages of adjacent sets. The vanes may be flat or slightly twisted. As shown in Fig. 2, three sets 1, 2, 3 of vanes are provided in the tube a, each set comprising blades c<1>, c<2> crossing at right angles. In modifications, each set of vanes comprises a thin metal ring or rings, for example rings d<1>, d<2>, Fig. 4, of smaller diameter than the tube a and carrying radial blades e. In a further modification, the tube contains two or more helical blades, the convolutions extending from the centre to the inner face of the tube, each blade being wound in the opposite direction to that of the adjacent blades.
