Abstract

372,418. Slide or gate valves. ARMSTRONG, J. J. V., 12, Church Street, Liverpool.-(Seiffert & Co. Akt.-Ges., F.; 13, Oberwasserstrasse, Berlin.) Feb. 13, 1931, No. 4524. [Class 135.] A double-faced slide or gate valve is formed with tubular or annular sleeve closure members 12 which are slidably mounted on tubular extensions 10 of the valve member. The closure members 12 are advanced and withdrawn by tubes 18 which are axially displaceable by eccentrics 22 operated through links 28 from the valve spindle 32 in the act of lowering and raising the valve. Rollers 44 on the eccentrics move along guides 46 in the casing during the lowering action and prevent the outward thrust on the tubes 18 until the valve registers with the seating, whereupon the rollers 44 pass into a curved guide allowing rotation of the eccentrics, and the consequent axial thrust outwards of the tubes 18. Packing 34 ensures a tight joint on the tubular extensions. Hooked members 36 engaging a groove in the parts 12 keep the parts in assembly and an extension 40 enters a groove 42 in the valve seating in the closed position and prevents the opening of the valve before the withdrawal of the tubes 18. The joint between the parts 12 and the tubular extensions 10 may be made by means of flexible diaphragms or corrugated tubes. A divided bridging pipe may be arranged to produce a straight connection between the inlet and outlet passages when the valve is raised to its open position.
