Abstract
601,648. Valve closure members. REILLY, C. Dec. 5, 1945, No. 32894. [Class 135] A stop valve comprises two telescopic tubular members 1, 2, the annular space 6 between which contains a resilient torus ring 3 which on relative movement of the two members rolls over openings 9 or 10 in the inner member to control the flow through the valve. Fig. 1 shows a valve for an air or water supply line to a rock drill. The tube 1 has two series of graduated openings 9, 10, one on each side of a plug 7 so that when the ring 3 is in the central position shown the passage of fluid between the openings 9, 10 via the annulus 6 is prevented. The ends of the annulus 6 are closed by caps 4 and sealed by further rolling rubber rings 12, 13. Collars 11 limit the movement of the ring 3. Fig. 3 shows a tap in which the inner telescopic tube 17 forms a spout blocked at its inner end by a plug 18 and the outer telescopic member 16 comprises an enlargement of the supply pipe 15. Openings 21 are open to the fluid supply when the spout is pushed inwardly so that the openings pass a rolling rubber ring 3. The spout 17 is guided by spokes 19 and an annular cap 20.
