Abstract

487,936. Pulverulent - fuel burners. LOHSE, J. Sept. 28, 1936, No. 26234. [Class 75 (i)] A mixture of coal-dust or like powdered fuel and air or combustible gas supplied by a pipe 26 is delivered to a mixing chamber 1 by a feed screw 3 to mix with compressed air supplied through a pipe 10a past helical vanes 7, the air supply being controlled by a piston 10b on a valve 10 operated by a threaded hub 11, which also operates by chain gearing 16a a valve 4a controlling the admission of air to a turbine wheel 4 rotating the feed screw 3. The mixture is delivered from the chamber 1 into the furnace past an axially adjustable needle 2 and is impinged upon by secondary air issuing from a nozzle 8 supplied from the pipe 10a through an inclined port 10c in a piston 10d on the valve 10. The nozzle 8 is moved axially by a lever 14 operated by a sleeve 15 secured to the spindle of the valve 10 and threaded on a fixed support 11y. Liquid fuel may be supplied to the combustible mixture through a valve casing 22, a filter 23, and helical grooves in the spindle of the needle 2. The liquid fuel supply may be regulated by axially displacing a piston 21 in the casing 22 relatively to helically arranged fuel passages by means of worm and chain gearing 20, 19 operated by the hub 11.
