Abstract

487,658. Snap - action switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 6, 1937, No. 33723. Convention date, Dec. 5, 1936. [Class 38 (v)] A switch having on one end of a pivoted lever a contact which moves between two fixed contacts, is operated by rotating a cam disc which acts on the lever through a mechanism of spring urged links. A pivoted bell-crank b carries a roller l at one end which engages the edge of a cam k, and is pivotally connected at the other end with a lever a. The tension of a spring c acting on lever a and through the engagement of surface n with a roller d on one end of a centrally pivoted lever e holds a contact g at the other end against a fixed contact i. When cam k rotates the roller l rides up a cam surface m, causing rotation of bell-crank b and movement of the lever a with increase in tension of the spring c, until roller d passes over the apex of surface n and the spring tension is relaxed, lever c rotating with a snap-action to bring contacts f and h into engagement. Continued rotation of the cam k allows roller l to ride down the other surface m to cause arm e to move back again with a snap-action.
