487,379. Waterproofing. TEXTILWERK HORN AKT.-GES. Dec. 15, 1936, No. 34462. Convention date, May 25. Addition to 427,686. [Class 140] The process of making light-weight air-permeable waterproof fabric described in the parent Specification is modified by using a Fabric of cotton, wool, silk, artificial silk or mixtures which has interstices between the warp and weft threads not larger than those of a cotton fabric made from 70's yarn and having 160 warp and weft threads per inch, so that the shrinking step is dispensed with. The process may be further modified by impregnating the fabric, after treatment with the water-repellent material, with a solution of an artificial resin, e.g. polyvinyl acetate in benzol or toluol, further impregnating with a water-repellent material, e.g. a paraffin solution or emulsion, and finally calendering at a temperature at which the artificial resin does not become sticky, e.g. 25‹ C., and at pressures from 200-300 kg. per sq. cm. The artificial resin solution may contain plasticizers such as paraffin oil or synthetic esters of high boiling point. The impregnation may be effected in a trough provided with guide rolls and if desired with means for tensioning the fabric. Specification 471,231 is referred to.
