767,110. Waterproofed regenerated cellulose yarn; coated fabrics; laminated materials. COURTAULDS, Ltd. Nov. 24, 1954 [Nov. 25, 1953], No. 32682/53. Class 140. Regenerated cellulose yarn is impregnated with an aqueous wax emulsion and then bonded to a polyvinyl chloride composition. Yarns obtained from viscose, cuprammonium cellulose or cellulose acetate may be used. The wax emulsion may contain paraffin wax, a protective colloid such as casein or gelatine, and compounds of aluminium such as aluminium acetate, aluminium formate or alum. Thepolyvinyl chloride composition may be applied to the impregnated yarn as a paste before or after weaving or applied in sheet form to the woven fabric. In an example, viscose yarn in the form of a cake, obtained from the centrifugal spinning process, is impregnated with an aqueous paraffin wax emulsion. It is then impregnated with polyvinyl chloride paste and woven into a belt which is then covered with polyvinyl chloride paste and subjected to heat and pressure. Belts may be made by weaving a number of superposed warps wherein each of the warps is treated with a polyvinyl chloride paste before or during weaving and the belt, when woven, is covered with a preformed sheet or paste of polyvinyl chloride and subjected to heat and pressure. Laminated articles may be made by weaving wax emulsion impregnated yarns into a fabric, spreading both sides of the fabric with polyvinyl chloride paste, heating to gel the paste, folding or assembling several of these coated fabrics, covering the laminated plies with a preformed sheet of a polyvinyl chloride composition and subjecting the composite article to heat and pressure.
