505,666. Moulding hats &c. INTERKNIT AKT.-GES., and SIBER, H. Nov. 22, 1937, No. 32145. [Clacs 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups VIII and VII] Form-retaining, porous and water-resistant articles such as hats are made from porous extensible textile fabrics comprising composite threads which consist of cellulose derivative, e.g; cellulose acetate threads, combined with threads of insoluble textile material, e.g. wool, by treating the article after moulding to shape with a solvent for the cellulose derivative to impart the necessary stiffness. The fabrics may be woven, knitted, crocheted, braided or matted. The compound thread may be made by intertwining or spinning together the two components. The cellulose derivative threads may be contained in the surface or the interior of the compound threads. The fabric may contain a proportion only of composite threads, and these may be incorporated into the fabric of insoluble threads by sewing or embroidering. The articles may be made from two plies of fabric, one of which at least comprises the compound threads, which are united by the action of the solvent. Double brims of hats may be similarly formed.
