Description
Patented Sept. 16, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CAMILLE DREYFUS, OF BASEL, SWITZERLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE AMERICAN CEIr LULOSE & CHEMICAL MFG. 00., LTD., OF NEW YORK, N: Y., A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
FABRIC AND ARTICLE.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAMiLLE DREYFUs, a citizen of Switzerland, and a resident of Basel, Switzerland, have invented a certam new anduseful Improvement in Fabrics and Articles.
It is a known fact that ribbon or other fabrics made with a mixture of natural silk and cotton or other non-silk materials, such as cotton, wool, etc., cannot be subjected to the process of weighting advantageously, as the cotton or the other materials associated w th the natural silk absorb the material used for weighting the silks, such as tin salts. In this way it is practically impossible to subject silk in combination with cotton or other materials economically to a weighting process afl'ecting thesilk only, or if it is done the result of the weighting is not successful.
I have now found that when ribbons or any other mixed fabrics, which contain silk mixed or associated with cotton yarns, or threads which have been impregnated with a permanent impregnation or finish, such as acetate of cellulose, are subjected to the weighting process, the weighting of the silk in the mixed fabric can be executed in a very economical and very successful way without absorption of weighting material by the cotton, or with the absorption of only a small quantity. Instead of using cotton yarn in conjunction with silk, yarns or threads of wool or other suitable non-silk material can be used, and instead of using Application filed December 22, 1921. Serial No. 524,277.
cellulose acetate impregnated yarns or threads for association with the silk, yarns can be or threads of non-silk material can be used which have been impregnated with cellulose esters, cellulose ethers or other cellulosic products, or other suitable products, leaving a suitable permanent finish in the yarn.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: v
1. Ribbons and other fabrics comprising silk threads associated with threads of other material, said non-silk threads only being provided with a resistant dressing of cellulosic derivative whereby they are substan tially immune to weighting.
2. Ribbons and other fabrics comprising silk threads associated with threads of other material, said non-silk threads only being provided with a resistant dressing of cellulose acetate whereby they are substantially immune to weighting.
3. Ribbons and other fabrics comprising silk threads non-immune to weighting, associated 'with threads of cotton provided with a resistant dressing of cellulosic derivative whereby they are substantially immune to weighting.
4. Ribbons and other fabrics comprising silk threads non-immune to weighting, associated with threads of cotton provided with a resistant dressing of cellulose acetate whereby they are substantially immune to weighting.
' CAMILLE DREYFUS.
