Abstract
486,998. Stocks and dies. WALKER, J. D., and MATHIESON & SONS, Ltd., A. June 28, 1937, No. 18031. [Class 83 (iii)] In a screwing die-head or stock wherein die sections are moved radially by a bevelled sleeve screwing in the body, means are provided for enabling fine adjustments of the dies to be made, said means being capable of being rendered inoperative in order that coarse adjustments may be effected. The stock body 1 receives a screwed sleeve 4 having a coned end 23 engaging the chasers 38 which are slidable in radial guides in a plate 26 attached to the stock by screws 27 and thumb nuts 28. A plate 6 is rotatable relatively to the sleeve 4 but may be clamped thereto by means of screws 14 and thumb nuts 15 which cause a ring 13 attached by the screws 14 to the plate, to grip the sleeve through conical serrations 16. Rotation of the plate relatively to the sleeve when the nuts 15 are slackened gives a coarse adjustment of the chasers and a fine adjustment is provided by rotating the plate through a lug 11 thereon having a micrometer screw 17 rotatable therein. The head 18 of the screw has a graduated flange reading against a tubular projection 19 of the lug 11 and engages a stop 20a to locate the chasers in the cutting position. The screw 17 is locked by a nut 20, and the stop is adjustable in height, to compensate for different depths of chasers, by means of a set screw 22. The sleeve 4 may be locked in adjusted position by pads on a screw 43 carrying a thumb nut 45, the pads having grooved surfaces for engaging the threads on the sleeve. A circular spring 40 passing through holes in the chasers maintains them expanded into contact with the bevelled end 23 of the sleeve. Bushings and guides.-A work guide 49 is attached by screws 49a to the plate 26 and has V-shaped work-engaging members 47 adjustable radially by means of screws 50 attached to the members, the screws 50 passing through radial slots 49b in the guide 49 and cam-slots 51 in a rotatable cam-plate 52. The screws 50 also serve for locking the cam-plate.
