Abstract
488,539. Lathe tool-holders ; turrets. SIMMEL, M. Feb. 9, 1938, No. 4090. [Class 83 (iii)] In a turret-type lathe tool-holder, the tools m are fixed in slots l in a conical head k by screws n whose heads lie in recesses o and thus do not cause an obstruction when the head k is rotated. The head is attached to a stem g passing through a shank a and is located by pins r on the head engaging recesses f in the shank. The lower endof the stem g has a left-hand screw-thread h co-operating with a hand-operated nut u by which the head is secured in operative position, a spring s normally pressing the head downwards. In order to change the tool position, the nut u is screwed downwards against a stop w, secured to the stem by a right-hand thread i, and the head is pushed upwards to withdraw the pins r from the recesses f and allow rotation of the head. A flanged collar q attached to the head prevents ingress of cuttings &c. between the head and shank in the raised position. Two sides of the shank are flattened to enable it to be clamped to the cross-slide y of a lathe by a plate x, and the upper end b is conical to form a continuation of the head k.
