Abstract

531,857. Screwing die-heads. NAYLOR, J. W. Aug. 4, 1939, No. 22616. [Class 83 (iii)] Tangential chasers are pivotally mounted in the die-head so that the tangential angle may be varied according to the pitch diameter. The chasers 11 are clamped at 12 to a holder 10 pivoted on the cam - controlled adjusting slides 8 at 14 and adjusted by screws 15, 16 the screws 16 having index mark coacting with graduations to show the setting. The diehead parts are assembled on a sleeve 5a having various external diameters. The cam ring 6 for operating the dies has an opening spring 22 and locking pins 23 engaging holes in a ring 18 adjustably mounted on the body 19 the adjustment being effected by a nut 27 and opposing spring 17 between lugs 25, 26. The body 19 is splined at 24 of the sleeve 5a for limited movement to the left in Fig. 1 under the control of a spring 21 having an abutment 20. Eccentrically mounted cam members may be used instead of the screws 15, 16 or instead of using graduations thickness feelers may be used to obtain the setting.
