486,622. Motor vehicles. ZAVODY TATRA AKCIOVA SPOLECNOST PRO STAVBU AUTOMOBILU A ZELEZNICNICH VOZU. March 22,1937, No. 8375. Convention date, March 27, 1936. [Classes 79 (ii), 79 (iii), and 79 (iv)] A motor vehicle with a four wheel drive and swinging half-axles pivoted to a central longitudinal chassis member 1, in which the engine 12 is mounted resiliently on a bracket extension 8 of the chassis member either in front of the front axle or behind the rear axle, with its shortest dimension sloping in the direction of length of the vehicle, is characterized by an intermediate shaft 13 connected coaxially with the main transmission shaft 13a and driven by bevel gearing 14 from the change-speed gearbox 11 arranged immediately underneath the engine. The intermediate shaft, which is shown journalled in the gear casing 11 and connected by a flexible coupling 13b to the transmission shaft, may be used for driving auxiliary members such as a fan or blower 17, or a dynamo, &c., the blower 17 serving to supply cooling air to the engine through ducts 18. A horizontally opposed four cylinder engine 12 is shown rigidly mounted on the gear casing 11 which is bolted with the interposition of rubber pads 9, 10 on the bracket 8, the vertical line through the centre of gravity of the combined unit lying between the points of support. The carburetter 19, sparking plugs 20, &c., are on the outside of the engine and easily accessible. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, includes arrangements in which the axles are rigid and in which the front or rear axle only may be driven. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
