485,600. Combined gas and pulverulent-fuel burners. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Jan. 22, 1937, No. 1949. Convention date, Jan. 28, 1936. [Class 75 (i)] In a furnace having a tube-cooled wall pulverulent fuel discharged from the rectangular openings in the nozzles 16 of a burner 15 impinges on dispersal members 22, 22<1> attached to the cooling tubes 10 and passes with the air supplied through a casing 20 into the furnace. A tapering duct 26 in the casing 20 supplies gas through nipples 24 to alternate dispersal members 22<1> which are hollow and are provided with small jet openings 23 discharging into the furnace. Pulverized fuel and gas may be burnt separately or together. The burner 15 may be attached to the duct 26 by brackets allowing its distance from the dispersal members to be adjusted. In a modification the pulverulent burner nozzles discharge only on the hollow dispersal members supplied with gas, the intermediate tubes being fitted with tubular protectors containing asbestos or other heat insulating material.
