Abstract
485,376. Two-part couplings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BARRETT, G. S. Nov. 18, 1936, No. 31576. [Class 38 (i)] A holder for a lamp having plug-shaped terminals comprises sockets 1 to receive the plug terminals and having slots 7 so that the sockets can be compressed to grip the plugs. In one form, the sockets are externally tapered and screwthreaded so that nuts 10 when screwed down compress the sockets. Each socket is integral with a terminal block 3 having bores 4, 5 and a binding screw 6 to secure a wire inserted in either bore. The block 3 also serves to mount the socket in a base consisting of a disc 2 of insulation and a similar disc. 8 secured by a bolt 9 to retain the block 3. The compression of the socket may be effected by a band that can be tightened around it or by lugs formed at opposite sides of the split in the socket drawn together by a screw. Instead of split sockets, sockets built up of separate elements may be employed.
