Abstract
485,077. Vehicle spring suspensions. SCHREIBER, E. Dec. 24, 1937, No. 35764. Convention date, Jan. 30. [Class 108 (ii)] The inner end of a swinging wheel-carrying arm h of a road or other vehicle, or aircraft undercarriage, is secured to an oscillating axle or shaft g firmly supported in an elastic body f of rubber or like material which is disposed within an outer casing b capable of being contracted so as to effect a tight clamping of the shaft g. In the construction shown the casing b is split longitudinally at e and is contracted by means of bolts and nuts d associated with straps c, while the shaft g is preferably of hexagonal or other non-circular shape. If desired, the shaft g may also be split longitudinally, in which case, on contraction of the casing b, rubber is forced into the slit in the shaft. Contraction of the casing b may alternatively be effected by tapering and externally threading its end and screwing a nut thereon. The arms h may carry independently mounted wheels k, or the shaft g may extend across the entire width of the vehicle and support arms h at both ends.
