Abstract
251,380. Oxlade, H. J. W. Feb. 20, 1925. Axles.-A wheel and axle assembly for railway and similar vehicles comprises a pair of wheels connected to one another by an intermediate axle portion e, and journals d spigoted into the hubs of the wheels; the journals may be removably inserted in the hubs of the wheels and held independently of the means whereby the wheel pair is assembled with the axle portion. In Fig. 1, the axle portion e is bolted to the web of the wheel which may be dished and the journal d is spigoted into the wheel and secured by a nut f. The spigot c may be cone-shaped and secured by a nut or a cottar or it may be cylindrical and secured by a. set screw or the end may be riveted over.
