Abstract

253,382. Boswell, G. P. July 30, 1925. Springs and wheels, arrangement of -A mounting for a castor wheel of a truck, milk-pram, or like vehicle comprises two curved strips of metal A, B of different curvatures and having their ends or one pair of corresponding ends A', B' in the same plane, the strips being connected together at the centre or the other pair of corresponding ends by a bearing piece carrying the wheel frame, the strips being secured at one or both ends to the body. The bearing piece may comprise a member I, Fig. 3, provided with a plain or antifriction bearing to receive the stem E of the wheel frame F and formed with flanges I<1> secured to the strips A, B which are arranged transversely of the vehicle. Flanges I<2> on the member engage holes in the strips. The strips may be springy or a helical spring K may be mounted on the stem E between the strip A and wheel frame F, and in a modification the upper strip B is flat. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the strips A, B are arranged longitudinally of the vehicle to which thev are secured at one of their ends. The other ends of the strips are formed with screw threaded on plain holes in which is mounted a tubular bearing C which may be screwed into the strips or secured thereto by nuts above and below each strip. The bearing arrangement of Fig. 5 may be substituted for the member I, Fig. 3.
