[Class 51 (ii)] In a gas or oil fired Perkins tube oven, the tubes are enclosed for the whole or part of their length in heating-gas flues. In the single deck draw-plate or peel oven shown the ends of the tubes C, D project into combustion chambers E, F, fired by burners 6, and the waste gases are exhausted to the stack 11 through jacket flues A, B above and below the oven of just sufficient height to accommodate the tubes, and an end passage 8. The tubes spaced in the jacket flues by transverse supports 5. Both combustion chambers are located within the baking area of the oven, and the top of the lower one constitutes an extension of the sole plate 2. The tubes may be horizontal or inclined, and in the latter case the top and bottom walls of the baking chamber are correspondingly inclined to maintain good contact with the tubes. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), with a single combustion chamber, the tubes and the flues enclosing them extend beneath, up the rear end, and above the oven chamber. In a straight " travelling " oven, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), three or more groups of tubes extending lengthwise of the oven are arranged above and below the conveyer band ; and where the oven is of the type having a conveyer moving in superposed laps, Figs. 9 and. 10 (not shown), partitions arc fitted between the laps with heating-tubes above and below them, the tubes for top heat being straight, while those for bottom heat are of hairpin form with their lower limbs enclosed in the heating flues.
