Abstract

483,441. Ball - and socket joints of vacuum cleaners. ELECTROLUX, Ltd. July 13, 1937, No. 19413. Convention date, July 18, 1936. [Classes 8 (i) and 99 (i)] The nozzle 10 of a vacuum cleaner is connected to a suction rod or hose by a member 11 integral with a ball 14 socketed in the nozzle body. The ball carries a diametral rod 18, and a link 20 bears on the middle of the rod and is supported at its other end by a blade spring bearing on the nozzle. Either the rod 18 or the link 20 may be resilient. The nozzle carries bristles 23. In a modification, the nozzle body 10, in place of being open-topped, is covered by a plate and a horizontal annular channel is formed in the body and plate to receive the end of the rod 18 and limit its range of movement.
