Abstract
483,172. Mounting engines. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. Fob. 22, 1937, No. 5298. Convention date, Feb. 21, 1936. [Class 79 (iii)] The arm e of a hydraulic or other oscillation-damper d, for neutralizing torque reactions of a motor vehicle engine mounted to rock about a longitudinal axis, moves with play between abutment stops so as to be inactive until the engine oscillations are of sufficient amplitude to bring the arms into engagement with the stops. The engine is conveniently mounted on front and rear rubber cushions so as to be rockable about an inclined longitudinal axis passing through or near the centre of gravity of the unit. The damping device d may be bolted to an engine arm h, the damper arm e being free to move up and down within narrow limits in an aperture i in a member z held by a ball mounting k on a bracket o secured to the vehicle frame. The amount of free movement may be varied by adjustment of a set screw b. Additional cushioning means such as a rubber cushion g, or a spring f, may be interposed between the engine arm hand the frame.
