963,947. Harmonic dampers. HUMBER Ltd., and J. A. CHANNER. April 25, 1963 [Feb. 13, 1962], No. 5446/62. Heading F2S. A harmonic damper for damping the unsprung weight of a wheel and its associated axle part comprises an arm 44 (see Fig. 4) pivotally attached at one end to the axle structure 42 by a resilient bush 46 which is bonded to both ports (42 and 44) and a weight 45 attached to the other end of the arm or intermediately. In an embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the weight 10 is on a divided arm structure which surrounds the axle 12 and is pivoted on a rubber bush 20 to a brake anchor plate on the axle 12. Rubber buffers 16 on each branch of the arm limit its up-and-down movement. Fig. 4 (not shown), illustrates an arrangement somewhat similar to Fig. 1 in which each branch of the arm is separately pivoted both to the weight and to the anchor plate. In all the constructions shown the weight lies at least partially within the wheel-rim. The arm may be constructed as a sandwich of two strips of spring steel with an interlay of rubber-bonded thereto.
