Abstract

1,035,623. Shock absorbers. GIRLING Ltd. Nov. 6, 1962 [Nov. 7. 1961], No. 39776/61. Heading F2S. A shock damper system is adjusted to be connected between a road vehicle wheel and the spring mass resiliently supported by the wheel and comprises a main fluid displacement shock damper including two relatively movable parts or assemblies one of which is adjusted to be connected to the road wheel and an auxiliary harmonic damper mechanism which partly is constituted by the one part or by part of the one assembly. In the construction shown the auxiliary damper comprises a spring-loaded annular inertia weight M. The weight is provided with resilient buffers Q moulded to a plate S and secured by a rivet R. In a modification the inertia weight is cylindrical and works in an extension of the working chamber (Fig. 2, not shown). In a further embodiment a cylindrical weight working in a cylinder is combined with a semi-rotary type shock absorber (Fig. 3, not shown).
