Abstract
481,858. Wireless receiving-apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMFENFABRIEKEN. Aug. 11, 1937, No. 22100. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1936. [Class 40 (v)] In a radio-receiver employing means for facilitating accurate tuning, such as an automatic brake on the tuning- spindle, controlled by a relay which operates when correct tuning is obtained, the signal amplifier is used to give an amplified current through the relay at the moment when the receiver is brought into correct tune. Intermediate frequency currents from valve 3 are passed by condenser 2 to tuned circuits 4, 9 associated with rectifiers 6, 11. Circuit 9 is highly selective, and its associated load circuit includes resistance 8 which is common to rectifier 6 with the result that a voltage appears across resistance 10 only at correct tuning when the bias from resistance 8 is overcome, and is passed by contact 13 to the L.F. amplifiers 15, 16. This amplified voltage pulse operates relay 20 which actuates the braking magnet 25 to hinder further rotation of the tuning knob 21 ; simultaneously contacts 19 remove a short circuit from the loudspeaker, contacts 12 short circuit resistance 8 and contact 13 changes over to connect the L.F. amplifier to the resistance 7, the diode 6 then functioning as the normal signal detector. The relay is arranged to be held operated by the normal anode current of valve 16. Forced rotation of the tuning-knob to tune to another station, causes the brake magnet 25 to move over a small angle against springs, Fig. 2 (not shown), and contact 23 is operated to short-circuit coil 20 through an inductance 24 to produce a time delay in the release of the brake.
