Abstract
465,515. Valve circuits for wireless reception. ROBINSON, J. Oct. 7, 1935, No. 28609/34. [Class 40 (v)] A wireless receiver is automatically brought into exact tune with a desired signal by a control potential derived by rectification from one of the receiving stages, and applied to vary the grid bias of a variable-mu valve associated with the tuning circuit of the receiver. The Figure shows a superheterodyne receiver in which part of the intermediate frequency energy is rectified at 17 and amplified at 18. The rectified potentials are then applied through a change-over switch 34 to the grid of a variable-mu oscillator 13 and vary the oscillator frequency in such sense as to bring the receiver into exact tune. The switch 34 is operated by an arm 35 in accordance with direction of rotation of the tuning knob 30 of the ganged tuning elements of the preselector 10 and local oscillator circuit 12 ; the automatic control is thus operative for either direction of rotation. The oscillator may have a fixed initial bias which is opposed by the applied control potentials ; by this arrangement, the control potential may be arranged to be a maximum at a predetermined frequency difference from exact tune. Specification 407,057 is referred to.
