Abstract
487,170. Wireless receiving circuits. COLE, Ltd., E. K. Jan. 16, 1937, No. 1357. Convention date, Jan. 17, 1936. [Class 40 (v)] The voltage for controlling an automatic fine-tuning device in a radio receiver is derived from two coupled circuits associated with the I.F. stages of a superheterodyne receiver, the voltages across the two circuits being added vectorially and impressed on a rectifier. In the Figure the I.F. amplifier 1 of a superheterodyne receiver is coupled to the second detector over two circuits A, B, the inductance L2 of circuit B being coupled to an inductance L1 which supplies a diode rectifier 14<1>. A tapping 12 on inductance L1 of circuit 14 is connected to a second diode 14<11> and the diode load resistances 20, 16 are arranged so that the rectified voltages across them are in opposition, the resultant voltage being applied to the A.F.C. device over lead 22. The action of this arrangement is that the voltage applied to diode 14<1> is the vector sum of parts of the voltages across inductances L1 and L2. The resultant rectified voltage across resistance 16 has a definite value at the resonant frequency of circuits A and B which is utilized for purposes of automatic frequency control. The voltage from tapping 12 on L1 applied over condenser 18 to diode 14<11> is thus opposed to that derived from coil 11 the tapping being so arranged that the respective voltages across resistances 16, 20 are equal and opposed at resonance. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the diode 14<1> is constituted by the normal signal diode of the receiver which also provides the A.V.C. voltages as shown in the Figure.
