Abstract

505,820. Wireless receiving circuits. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. Sept. 28, 1938, No. 28204. Convention date, Oct. 22, 1937. [Class 40 (v)] In a wireless receiver of the kind having motor-operated tuning controlled locally or remotely by means of push-buttons and wherein at least one amplifier stage is subject to A.V.C., the speed of rotation of the tuning motor is reduced in the neighbourhood of a signal of predetermined amplitude. The tuning motor M has a series field 23 and is controlled by push-buttons F, R giving forward and reverse running respectively. In series with the motor and winding 23, two coils 29, 30 of a saturabie reactor are connected across the A.C. supply 24, the central limb of the reactor having a coil 33 which carries the space currents of the valves 14, 16, 18 subject to A.V.C. voltages from 19, 20. With no signal, the current in 33 is large, the reactor is saturated and the reactance of coils 29, 30 is small; practically the full supply voltage is thus applied to motor M which runs at normal speed. As soon as a powerful station is approached the current through 33 falls sharply and the voltage applied to M is reduced with conse. quent reduction of speed. The receiver may be tuned rapidly through unwanted . stations by closing switch 40 to short-circuit coils 29, 30. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the valve space current operates a relay to insert or remove a resistance in the motor armature circuit and further . contacts on the relay mute the receiver during tuning.
