Abstract

481,817. Casting-machines. HERAEUSVACUUMSCHMELZE AKT.-GES. Oct. 26, 1936, No. 29087. Convention date, Dec. 6, 1935. Addition to 440,859. [Class 83 (i)] [Also in Group XII] A vacuum casting-machine, as described in the parent Specification, is provided with a trough f<1>, Fig. 3, of or lined with ceramic material, arranged to direct any metal, discharged by a premature fusion of the plug d, into a container g of or lined with ceramic material. When it is desired to pour the metal into one of the water cooled moulds o, o<2> the trough is moved about a vertical axis x. In a modification the single mould o, Fig. 2, is arranged directly below the tap hole and the deflecting trough f is moved out of the way about an axis h when it is desired to pour. A trough f may also be used in a machine having a second trough to direct the poured metal to one of a number of moulds. The trough f or f<1> may be used to direct the metal into the container g should the nozzle b break or other irregularity occur during pouring.
