Abstract

481,125. Cables. POLLOCK, S. A. Sept. 5, 1936, No. 24332. [Class 36] A conductor M insulated by a wrapping of glass or other vitreous threads or cords, the thread or cord being initially made up of fine long solid filaments stranded together in such a manner that there is substantially no torsional stress in the individual filaments of the thread or cord. The stranded filaments may be produced by the machine described in Specification 481,126, [Group XXIII], which draws the filaments and strands them whilst they are still plastic. The threads may be plaited into a tape before wrapping on the conductor. The insulated conductor, or a number of such conductors may be provided with a lead or other impermeable sheath and the spaces within the cable thus formed filled with a solid or liquid material, or with a gas, such as compressed air. The filling material preferably has substantially the same permitivity as the vitreous material.
