Abstract
461,899. Electric cables. ROHLING, J., and KIMENKOWSKI, E. Aug. 23, 1935, No. 23678. [Class 36] Electric conductors are insulated by a covering formed of hollow glass threads which may be spun, braided, knitted, or woven into ribbons, hoses or tubes and wound on to a conductor in one or more layers, or the hollow glass threads can be manufactured into a tube around a conductor. Other known, preferably non-hygroscopic, insulating materials may also be used for securing the glass threads together. Fig. 2 shows a texture 6 of plaited hollow glass threads 7 wound in a number of layers on to a conductor 5, and an outer covering of water-proof ribbon 8, e.g. guttapercha or indiarubber. A multi-core cable is formed by conductors 5, Fig. 3, individually covered by the ribbon, &c. 6 of glass threads, hollow glass thread packing 9, a surrounding winding of hollow glass threads 8, and an outer shock absorbing non-hygroscopic cover 10, such as guttapercha or lead.
