Abstract
705,614. Air space cables. PLANER, V., and PLANER, G. V. Sept. 13, 1951, No. 21571/51. Class 36 [Also in Group V] A thermoplastic insulating sheath 11, e.g. of polythene, has grooves 11a or indentations 32 which centralize a metallic conductor core 12. The grooves may be in the form of a single or multiple thread. Each groove may be filled with a filament of insulating material that has been used to form the groove ; this filament may be of polystyrene, nylon, polyvinylidene chloride or glass silk, and may be coloured for identification purposes, or the grooves or indentations themselves may be coloured with varnish, paint &c. if they contain no filaments. The sheath 11 may be covered with a metallic outer conductor in the form of a copper wire braiding or a metallized band of insulating material, and then further covered with a protective coating of polyvinylidene chloride or nylon, then cotton, silk or glass silk fabric may be applied and wax-impregnated or varnish-coated. Several such cables may be united to form a composite cable which may then be sheathed with lead or aluminium.
